Bell Helicopter Introduces the Bell Nexus Electric VTOL Air Taxi

aircraftconcept.com – Bell Helicopter has launched the Bell Nexus, a full scale design of a vertical air taxi vehicle powered by a hybrid-electric propulsion system. The design has been developed as part of a partnership between Bell, Safran, EPS, Thales, Moog and Garmin in developing Bell VTOL aircraft and mobility solutions on demand.

Bell Nexus Electric VTOL Air Taxi

The Nexus Bell is equipped with a hybrid-electric powered elevator concept that involves six fans tilting to facilitate safe and efficient air travel. It can take off and land vertically (VTOL).

Bell Nexus propulsion systems will be provided by Safran. The system will be designed to generate electric power to drive six propellers, each of which is housed in a sloping channel, three on each side of the cabin. The Nexus Bell will feature EPS energy storage systems, Thales flight control computer hardware and software, and Moog flight control actuation systems.

The rear aircraft of the aircraft above the cabin will accommodate the Safran turboshaft engine to receive additional power for vertical takeoff and landing, as well as extended range, such as a hybrid electric car. Meanwhile, the Bell Nexus avionics suite and vehicle management computer (VMC) will be supplied by Garmin.
