Lilium Jet eVTOL Aircraft Concept, Specs, and Price

aircraftconcept.com – Lilium Jet is a all-electric vertical take-off and landing (eVTOL) lightweight aircraft that is being developed by Lilium Aviation based in Munich, Germany. The aircraft was developed in partnership with the European Space Agency (ESA), Climate-KIC, and Unternehmertum, it will be the first full electric VTOL aircraft in the world.

The Lilium Jet prototype was first launched in June 2016. It was developed by conducting a series of flight tests using the Hexa, Dragon and Falcon scale models. The first flight test of a full-scale prototype aircraft begins in 2017, with the first flight of a fully functional aircraft scheduled to be completed by the end of 2019.

The Lilium eVTOL aircraft is scheduled to start operating in early 2020, while Lilium Aviation is expected to launch aviation service for customers in 2025. This aircraft will be useful for faster intercity travel, because it can complete the journey between San Francisco and Palo Alto in less than 15 minutes and between Munich and Frankfurt in one hour.

Lilium Jet Design and Specs

The egg-shaped Lilium Jet was designed by the German airline, Lilium Aviation, which was founded in 2015 by Daniel Wiegand along with three founders Patrick Nathen, Sebastian Born, and Matthias Meiner. The founders studied together at the Technical University in Munich, Germany.

Classified as a lightweight sports aircraft (LSA), Lilium Jet is built with lightweight composite materials such as carbon fiber reinforced polymers (CFRP). It is designed to fly during the day with good weather conditions. Being fully electric, this aircraft is environmentally friendly and reduces noise during takeoff.

Lilium Jet has retractable landing gear, wing doors, large boots, and wings automatically fold. It can take off vertically and fly like a helicopter to access residential areas in big cities. 50 ft x 50f t of space is required for landing and take-off, and can optionally be equipped with a parachute.

Lilium Jet Engine and Performance

Lilium Jet is powered by 36 electric fan engines which can produce about 320 kW (435 hp) each. The electric fan engine is mounted along the front wing and pod. Lilium Jet can fly at cruising speeds of up to 300 km / h (190 mph), as well as a range of 300 km (190 mi). The take-off weight is 600 kg and the payload capacity is 200 kg.

Lilium Jet Cockpit and Avionics

Lilium Jet has a side-by-side cockpit integrated with a touch screen and computer-aided control system. Featuring a panoramic window, it can accommodate two passengers in the cabin. An on-board computer that controls all engines and flaps, equipped with a software-based flight envelope protection system to reject unsafe pilot orders. This aircraft is also equipped with a GPS navigation system in the air.

Lilium Jet Price

At present Lilium Aviation has not yet announced the price of Lilium Jet. This is because the aircraft is under development and will undergo a number of flight tests before being operated. Lilium wants to be fully operational throughout the world by 2025 and will start trial services sooner. Meanwhile, it continues to test the latest 5-seat Lilium Jet for stricter flight test campaigns to demonstrate its broader capabilities.
