This aircraft is intended to produce fast and cost-effective inter-city transportation, this aircraft offers travel three times faster and 50% cheaper than similar sized helicopters.

The first Transcend Air Vy 400 VTOL prototype took flight in 2009 and 15 VTOL prototypes have been built and tested by the company. Of the 15 prototypes, 14 were installed with electric engine power for flight testing, while one was installed with a gasoline engine.
